Essential Oils to Support a Sugar Detox

There’s a lot of great uses for essential oils so I have a guest post from my Young Living Essential Oils educator and former client, Stephanie Bader!

 

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?

Essential oils are the lifeblood of the plant--the most important part.  They are volatile (that just means they evaporate quickly into the air) natural compounds derived from roots, leaves, stems, flower petals, tree needles, tree bark, resins, and citrus fruit rinds. They can support every single system of the body as well as emotions and mood.  Essential oils are extracted through steam-distillation, resin tapping, and cold-pressing.  

 

ALL OILS ARE NOT CREATED EQUALLY!

HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential oils can be used in one of three ways:  aromatically, topically, and internally.

 

1.  Aromatically:  the quickest and most effective way to get essential oils into your system! Breathe in the essential oil straight from the bottle; put a drop or two in your hands, rub together, cup over your nose, and inhale; or use the high-quality medical grade ultrasonic diffuser included in your Premium Starter Kit to diffuse essential oils into the air. 

 

2.  Topically:  Apply a drop or two of essential oil to your skin.  Always consult the bottle's label for instructions on how to safely dilute your essential oils with a carrier oil (fatty oil like avocado oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, etc.) to make sure they do not cause any skin irritation.  Many essential oils are safe to apply "neat" (right out of the bottle) and some are considered "hot" (can cause a hot or tingly sensation on the skin) and require dilution.  Diluting also allows an oil to spread further on the skin, therefore making your oils last longer.  It also allows the oil to penetrate the skin at a slower rate, which is great for children whose skin is thin and sensitive!

 

3.  Internally:  Any Vitality Essential oil with a white label is safe to ingest.  You can use these oils in your beverages, cooking and baking, or in an empty capsule to be taken like a supplement!  When drinking or storing citrus oils for your cooking or baking, be sure to use a glass or stainless steel container and a stainless steel straw. 

 

OILS AND THE SUGAR DETOX

Sugar Cravings:  Grapefruit, Peppermint, Black Pepper, Stress Away and especially Dill essential oils are all wonderful for curbing sugar cravings.  These oils can be diffused, applied topically to the skin, and some can even be used in water or with a drop under the tongue.

 

Digestion:  Peppermint, DiGize, AromaEase, and TummyGize are all oils that support healthy digestion.  These oils are best used topically for this purpose.  Be sure to always dilute these oils with some lotion or carrier oil before applying them right to your stomach in a clockwise motion because they are all "hot" or contain ingredients that are "hot."

 

Sleep:  Lavender, Frankincense, Stress Away, Cedarwood, Tranquil, Peace & Calming and many more can all be used to promote a healthy night's sleep.  They can aid in falling asleep faster and staying in a deeper sleep longer.  The most popular ways to use them are to diffuse overnight or to apply diluted to the back of your neck or to your feet.  

 

Stress:  Stress Away, Lavender, Frankincense, Tranquil, and many oils derived from trees like Pine, Northern Lights Black Spruce, and Idaho Blue Spruce work with the limbic (emotional) system of the brain to ease stress and anxiety.  You can diffuse them, apply them topically, or wear them in diffusing jewelry like a bracelet or necklace.
